About Frank Quayle

Frank J. Quayle (Educ ‘69) was born in 1947 in Brooklyn and spent his childhood in Garden City, New York. He and his wife Peggy (W&M ‘71) have resided in Charlottesville since 1973 where they raised their three children, Jay (Princeton‘96, DukeMed‘00), Willie (Curry‘00,M.Educ’07) and Kelly (Princeton‘03, Stanford’06 M.Educ, Goddard ’17 MFA).

At UVa Frank enjoyed an outstanding football career. He was named ACC Player of the Year in 1968, and ACC Athlete of the Year in 1969. Several of his UVa offense records still stand. He was drafted to the NFL in 1969 by the Denver Broncos , and played 2 seasons there. In 1970, during the NFL off- season, he was employed by VSAF to speak on behalf of the University. For 29 years he was UVa Football Color Analyst, on the broadcast team at WINA/Virginia Sports Network. At UVa Frank was elected to Omicron Delta Kappa. In his 4 th year he served as a Class Vice-President, and was offered residence on the Lawn, which he (regrettably!) declined, choosing instead to live with football teammates.

In 1976 Frank acquired Roy Wheeler Realty Co, founded in 1927 by UVa Law School graduate Roy Wheeler. RWRC continues to enjoy the reputation as one of the leading fine property real estate brokerage companies in the country. For more than 40 years, he has been Owner/Broker and President , specializing in marketing and selling fine properties, notably Farms, Country Estates and Fine Homes. In the late 1980’s he was recognized by USA Today as one of the top three Estate Brokers in the United States. Among noted clients were Muhammad Ali, John Grisham, Jessica Lange, Michael Creighton and John Kluge.

Frank is committed to serving and supporting Charlottesville/Albemarle youth. He has been a board member and benefactor of The Boys and Girls Club. He coached Little League football for many years, and his players represented all socioeconomic backgrounds. He and his wife have mentored a local disadvantaged young man since middle school, who is now a freshman at Averett University, and the first in his family to attend college. Additionally, he has served on numerous boards, amongst others: Jefferson Savings and Loan, Habitat for Humanity, Farmington Country Club, and currently the Virginia High School League.

At the University, the Quayles are members of the Lawn, Cornerstone, Compass Rose, and Rotunda Societies. In 2014 they funded the Quayle Learning Center in the UVa Children’s Hospital Battle Building in honor of their children. Recently they funded an endowed UVa Football scholarship. Golf, collegiate sports, family (7 grandchildren), life-long learning and personal investments remain strong interests.
