About Joan Esposito

Joan Esposito has been a Charlottesville resident for nearly 50 years. She and her husband, Jim relocated here to teach at the University of Virginia. Upon completion of a doctorate in education Joan taught at UVA. Albemarle County Schools, and Charlottesville City Schools. In 1978 Joan received her real estate license and set up shop at Roy Wheeler Realty. At the end of her first year as a realtor, she was selected “Rookie of the Year” Interest rates were 18%. Continuing her education Joan received the designations of GRI, CBR, and CRS. She has been a consistent Charlottesville Area Association of Realtors million-dollar producer and was awarded the “Good Neighbor Certificate” by the National Association of Realtors in 2009.
Joan specializes in Albemarle County residential properties:however, in the past 40 years she also sold a beauty parlor, several horse farms, a UVA sorority house , an apartment building, and simply a “waterfall” on five acres in Nelson County.
Joan currently lives in Albemarle County. When not warmly serving her buyers and sellers, she can be spotted running with friends on the streets of Charlottesville as a member of the Charlottesville Track Club.  Her charitable legacy was as a coach for women walking or running in the Charlottesville Women’s Four Miler where she was coined the nickname “Big Pink”. In 2010, Joan and her army of “Pink Lady” volunteers led more than 1,700 women in the hugely successful and popular summer women’s training program to train for the race that raised nearly $400,000 for the UVA Breast Care Program This race continues after 25 years of success.
Joan has been a happy runner. She has received numerous awards for volunteer work in the Charlottesville area: Charlottesville Track Club’s Lifetime Achievement Award, Susan G. Komen BMW Local Hero, Channel 29, “Sunrise Celebrity”, Charlottesville Association of Realtors Community Partner Award. Ragged Mountain Running Shop’s Steward Award, and “Run for LIfe” 5K Honored Volunteer thus she is fondly known and recognized as “The Running Realtor”.Joan was also “jailed” one winter until she raised significant funds for the MDA. In keeping with our cause, Joan was the 2010 Keynote Speaker at the local “Relay for Life” raising awareness for all cancers. Keeping  with her longtime commitment to Women’s health Joan has been a integral volunteer member of the UVA Women’s Midlife Center Committee since 2000, This group of select women’s plan and puts on two symposiums each year providing the latest information on women’s health along with important screenings. Joan and her husband Jim of 52 years, enjoy spending quality time with their three grown children at their OBX home appropriately named “Quality Time”
