About Ned Carter

Having received his initial real estate license in 1987, Ned joined Roy Wheeler Realty Co. in 2016 as an Associate with a focus on Farms and Estates sales and consulting.

Prior to joining Roy Wheeler Realty Co., Ned was Managing Director at BlueLine Conservation Incentives, where his responsibilities included land conservation easement consultation, land preservation tax credit brokerage, and land conservation project sales representation for this market leading conservation finance firm.

His work at BlueLine involved using a consultative approach to develop a thorough understanding of his client’s needs, a deep knowledge of land use policies and federal and state tax law; frequent interaction with staff and leadership of national and state conservation organizations, land trusts and government agencies; consultation with affluent clients and their legal and financial advisors; securing engagements and sales of rural lands for use as wetlands and nutrient offset banks; origination of Land Preservation Tax Credits from land owners and sale of those tax credits to investment and tax advisory firms and high net worth individuals.

Ned’s real estate work; however, is not limited to rural properties, while living in Old Town Alexandria, Ned renovated several historic houses and also developed a multi-unit townhouse project. This knowledge and broad experience have greatly enhanced Ned’s work with clients and his real estate practice at Roy Wheeler Realty.

Raised in Richmond and having lived in New York City, Washington, DC and Alexandria, Virginia for most of his adult life, Ned is an eighth generation resident of Albemarle County, where his family has a farm in the southern part of the County. Ned has two sons: Teddy, a senior at Dartmouth College, and Garretson, a freshman at Sewanee. Ned enjoys participating in and watching most all sports (especially the Cavaliers), is an enthusiastic outdoorsman (wing shooting and fishing) and is an active student of history, an avid reader and lover of all music (except rap).

Ned graduated from the University of Virginia in 1980 with a degree in History. In addition to his work noted above, he has over twenty years of professional and volunteer experience at the highest levels of national political fundraising and as a board leader of several non-profits- — including having served as the President of the Virginia Athletics Foundation at the University of Virginia.
